Tis' The Season

When you are in the supermarket I am sure you see the same fruits and veggies every single time. While you may feel comfortable knowing that you can always buy tomatoes for your sandwiches this is actually a problem. You should be eating your fruits and vegetables according to their natural growing season. People were once connected to the rhythm of the seasons, but this has been lost.

Seasonal eating offers so many benefits. First of all fruits and vegetables are most nutritious when they are first harvested, and buying produce when it is in season means you are getting optimum nutrition.Spinach and green beans lose 2/3 of vitamin C in seven days. If things are in season that means there is a lot of that particular crop so the price of that produce will be cheaper. Who doesn't want to save money?! Aso, our bodies have different nutritional needs during different seasons. Nature provides us with the food we need at the time we need it.

We feel entitled to eat any food we want at any time. While this may seem like a privilege you need to think of why you can eat out of season produce. Farmers need to put in more work to keep the produce alive. Pesticides, chemicals, and waxes are used to keep the fruits and vegetables looking nice in the stores. What seems like a luxury is harming us.

Save money and support your health

xoxo Bridget
